Coming to Hospital Care

Illness and hospitalisation are exceptional situations that can cause discomfort and distress..

Be free to talk about your concerns and needs – for your best treatment and care, our staff need complete and honest information.

When you come to Viljandi Hospital for planned hospital treatment, you will need a referral from your family doctor or a specialist and an agreement on your arrival time with the department where you will be referred.

If you are unable to come to the hospital at the agreed time, please make sure to let us know.

When coming to the hospital, please bring the following:

  • a referral letter from a general practitioner or specialist doctor
  • photo identification (passport/identify card).
  • records of previous examinations, if necessary
  • personal hygiene items
  • indoor footwear and changing clothes
  • daily medication
  • aids needed
  • for babies, please bring toiletries, one day’s food and, if you wish, your child’s pet(s).

Please do not bring large sums of money or valuables. If necessary, these can be given to a clinical assistant or nurse on duty who will place the items in a locked cupboard. Items not handed in remain the responsibility of the patient.

NOTE: Alcohol is not permitted in the hospital. Smoking is only permitted in a designated area outside near the entrance to the underground car park.

Please shower the day before coming to the hospital.

Please switch off your mobile phone while undergoing diagnostic examinations and treatments.

Hospitalization of patients’ clothing during hospitalization.

Inpatients and day care patients enter through the registration desk or during the evening and on weekends through the ED.

If a change of clothes is necessary, this is done in the patient’s own ward (with the assistance of a carer if necessary). Personal clothing remains in the wardrobe.

A bag of outerwear and, if necessary, disposable slippers for entering the ward can be obtained from the reception.
